QR Code Generator Extension Privacy Policy

Effective date: March 26, 2026

Summary

The HookRay QR Code Generator Chrome extension generates QR codes locally in the browser. It does not require an account and does not send QR input data to HookRay servers or any third-party API for QR generation.

Data we process

  • The current tab URL, when you open the popup, to prefill the input field.
  • A link URL selected from the right-click context menu, to generate a QR code for that link.
  • Local extension storage used only to temporarily pass a selected link into the popup.
  • Clipboard access only when you explicitly click the copy button.

Data we do not collect

  • No personal accounts or login data.
  • No browsing history beyond the active tab URL needed for prefilling.
  • No analytics, ad tracking, or fingerprinting.
  • No remote storage of generated QR content.

Permissions

  • activeTab: used to read the current page URL when you open the popup.
  • contextMenus: used to add the “Generate QR Code for this link” menu item on links.
  • storage: used only to pass a selected link URL from the context menu into the popup.

Third parties

The extension does not share data with advertising networks, analytics vendors, or external QR generation services. QR rendering happens inside the extension.
